August 2017: The Almanac by Ben Commons

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

Tips for almanac use: All the aspects can be felt in advance of the occurrence. It is good policy to view these as due dates for various energies and prepare accordingly for your context. It’s akin to bringing an umbrella with you when rain is expected, but it also helps us to not take the weather personally. When we proactively manifest these symbols then the world doesn’t have to do it for us. Choose to be con(with)-siderate(the stars).

August is upon us. It will be intense as it features a couple of eclipses, one which rolls right across the USA as a total solar! The general theme is about teamwork in partnership and groups. There are other themes, primarily about reconnecting with youthfulness, optimism, and curiosity. It could be quite fun, if we play along.

Uranus stations retrograde on the 2nd at 10:31 pm (pacific), starting us on the path of fine-tuning the adventures we’ve found ourselves in. We should be getting more accustomed to this new and somewhat unfamiliar territory and can begin to mold the situation so that doesn’t tax our nerves as much. Shake it out.

Jupiter squares Pluto on the 4th at 11:29 am (pacific), dredging all sorts of relationship issues, well beyond the intimate ones. Relations need to be taken to a deeper level of understanding, particularly our openness to other perspectives. Listen attentively.

The Lunar Eclipse is on the 7th at 11:11 am (pacific) in 15 degrees of Aquarius. This eclipse is semi-mellow, all things considered. We’re definitely being asked to be more aware of our community and how we show up in it. The key is to not impose ourselves unduly onto others, while staying authentic.

Mercury sextiles Venus on the 10th at 2:03 am (pacific), prompting us to connect with loved ones and catch up on what’s new. Working on game plans for improving our health and home situations would be wise.

The Sun sextiles Jupiter on the 10th at 2:24 pm (pacific), promoting some healthy optimism around improvement in our joy quotient. It would be appropriate to practice buoyancy, laughter, and play. Once again, don’t impose yourself unduly.

Venus trines Neptune on the 11th at 10:18 pm (pacific), asking us to relax and unwind wherever we have that stress being held. Take some time to yourself, take a bath, listening to soothing or emotional music, and release the tension.

Mercury stations retrograde on the 12th at 6:01 pm (pacific), beginning a mental and health revision session for a few weeks. This is good for shifting towards healthier habits and trimming clutter from our lives. Every smell step counts.

The Sun trines Saturn on the 13th at 2:06 pm (pacific), breaking out the measuring stick so we can gauge our progress and shine some light on what’s next on the to-do list. The key is to respect the process instead of focusing on final outcomes. Stay encouraged.

Venus opposes Pluto on the 15th at 4:13 am (pacific), frothing up all sorts of familial and societal programming and how it shapes our relations. Ideally, we could be healing old wounds and unhealthy patterns and making room for greater enjoyment of life.

Venus squares Jupiter on the 16th at 11:40 pm (pacific), pushing us to shift into greater appreciation of loved ones and where they are coming from. Practice gratitude and the expression thereof. And remember to smell the flowers.

Mars sextiles Jupiter on the 20th at 9:42 am (pacific), challenging our patience, but hopefully inspiring us towards greater action and more inspiration. Consistency is always key; so focus on the gains.

The Sun trines Uranus on the 20th at 11:23 pm (pacific), shaking us up out of whatever ruts we may have slipped into. The idea is to stay excited about the adventure instead of slipping into anxiety, or ignoring the urge to change and evolve our self-concepts.

The Total Solar Eclipse is on the 21st at 11:30 am (pacific) in 28 degrees of Leo. This is a big one, especially if you get to see it as it crosses the USA. It’s complicated symbolically, but there is definitely a strong push towards getting more comfortable and accepting of this wild ride we’re on and the world around us. Focus on what you can work on instead of reacting to what it is out of our control. Also, work on refreshing the innocence factor and self-acknowledgment about the inherent good within.

Mars trines Saturn on the 22nd at 6:20 am (pacific), pitting patience against impatience. Again, it’s about staying motivated to keep on keeping on and not allowing discouragement to control us. Respect your progress, and everybody else’s.

Venus squares Uranus on the 24th at 12:00 pm (pacific), shaking up the relationship world once again. It’s time to keep breaking new ground and to experiment with new modes of connection. Remember that we’re all trying, but it wouldn’t hurt to try some more.

Saturn stations direct on the 25th at 5:09 am (pacific), starting down the path of resolution for the last 5 months of tinkering and tweaking. Keep working on identifying unhelpful belief systems and readjusting our stance them. Think big, but act practically.

Venus moves into Leo on the 25th at 9:30 pm (pacific), where she will be until September 19th. This asks us to be more playful, have more fun, dance, be goofy and flirtatious even. It’s a good time to reconnect with our creativity and do some fun beautification projects.

Mercury conjoins the Sun on the 26th at 1:43 pm (pacific), pushing us to re-center the mind-heart axis. It’s a good chance to check in with ourselves and un-frazzle the mind. Breath exercises are a good option. Focus on the small improvements and keep making more without being overwhelming.

Jupiter sextiles Saturn on the 27th at 5:16 am (pacific), giving us a chance to get a better grasp of where we are headed and how we will get there and whose help we should try to gather. We should also be available to others, of course. Set a course, or reset a course, and start making concrete plans for moving along.

Mercury moves back into Leo on the 31st at 7:06 pm (pacific), where he will be until September 9th. This will heavily stimulate the solar eclipse degree, encouraging us to remember our youthful innocence, and get back to a joyful space. The key is to undo whatever blocks us from these things, particularly mental patterns. Think fresh.

So, yeah, August. It could slightly rough for some, and the world at large won’t be a mellow scene, but we can surely make strides to further buttress our personal worlds, mental outlook, health, and relationships. Dance to the celestial music.
